Festivals and events
Festivals in Bangalore are largely dependent on Kannada and Tamil influences. Makar Sankranti and Pongal are celebrated in January every year. A good place to visit is the Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara cave temple the temple has been designed such that on Sankranti day, the rays of the sun pass through the horns of the Nandi bull placed outside and illuminate the Lord Shiva image inside. A wondrous miracle of faith, architecture, astronomy and art!
Mahashivratri is celebrated in February and Holi and Ugadi (the new year) in March. While Bangalore lights up for Janmashtami , Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra, and Diwali, it also greets Christmas and New Year with equal joy!
