Tourism and allied activities form the major industry in Goa. Mining comes second as the coast is rich in mineral ores and mining forms. The leaders in the iron ore industry are Sesa Goa (now owned by Vedanta) and Dempo.

Fishing is another important industry in Goa, providing a livelihood to about 40,000 people. Other medium scale industries include pesticides, fertilisers, tyres, tubes, footwear, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, wheat products, steel rolling, fruit and fish canning, cashew nuts, textiles and brewery products.
