About 200 km from Delhi, Haridwar is accessible by rail, road and air. The nearest railhead and airport is at Dehradun, 52 kilometres and an hour's drive from Haridwar.

Although known primarily for its temples and religious influences, Haridwar is slowly developing as a business and academic centre. BHEL or Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd has a base here and the University of Roorkee is close to the city. The world's biggest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda Motors India has has also setup its new plant in Haridwar. Cream of crops like Dabur, Mahindra & Mahindra, Havells, HLL, ITC, VIP, Eveready etc have started production over hear.

Tourism is a huge revenue earner for the city and during the Kumbh mela, nearly 60-70 million people come together for a dip in the holy river. Its proximity to Delhi and Dehradun make it an attractive investment destination.
