The Industrial Capital of Punjab, Ludhiana is home to a large number of small, medium and large enterprises. Textiles and Hosiery are the major industries here, with several large knitwear factories and more than 5000 smaller units in the district. The biggest names in yarn include the Oswal group and the Nahar group.

The other well established industries of the region are bicycles, bicycle parts and components, tyres and tubes, sewing machines, machine tools, etc. Hero Cycles and Avon Cycles are both located in Ludhiana, as is Ralson Tyres. Apart from these, the city is a centre for makers of vanaspathi, beer, sugar, flour, rice, rice bran oil, and even cattle food.
