Durg (Bhilai) is one of the most populour districts of Chhattisgarh. Chattisgarh one of the few landlocked states of the country has Uttar Pradesh and Bihar towards the North, Orissa on the East, Andhra Pradesh in the South and Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in the West. Positioned on the Southwestern part of the Chhattisgarh plain, Durg occupies a raised plateau with hilly terrain in the South, while the Southwest and Northwest zones are bestowed with mineral resources and forests. It has been labelled as the rice bowl, the steel city and mini India, due to its cosmopolitan culture.
National Highway No 6 connecting Mumbai to Sambalpur and further on to Calcutta is the major highway of the district and the train route is the main line of the South Eastern Railway midway between Mumbai-Calcutta. The Airport at Mana (Raipur) nearest to the district headquarter Durg is about 50 kms away.
