Haridwar provides you a visual treat with its lush green surroundings, and a spiritual tour beginning with the Ganges, that runs through the city.
Haridwar literally means a gateway to the abode of the Gods. Some believe the city leads up to the home of Vishnu or Hari, one of the Gods of the Hindu holy trinity, and hence the name as Hari-dwar. Others believe that the city is a gateway to the land of Shiva or Hari, also a part of the holy trinity, and thus, Har-dwar.
