Jamshedpur is the largest city and urban agglomeration in the State of Jharkhand (formerly in the State of Bihar). It is the first well-planned industrial city of India, founded by Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata. Located on the Chhota Nagpur plateau, it's the district headquarters of Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district. Surrounded by the beautiful Dalma Hills, Jamshedpur has the rivers Subarnarekha and Kharkai bordering its North and West, respectively.
The city was named Jamshedpur in honour of its founder Jamshedji Tata. Among its several nicknames are, Steel City, Tata Nagar, or simply Tata as a courteous expression of regard to the significance of Tata companies in the city.
The city is dotted with industries and their respective residential areas, suburbs, developing suburbs, upmarket commercial areas, townships, and open grounds.
A trip to Jamshedpur would be incomplete without a visit to Jubilee Park, The Laser Show, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Dimna Lake, Rivers Meet, Dalma Hills, Hudco Lake, Sir Dorabji Tata Park, Bhatia Park, Keenan Stadium, Gol Pahari Mandir, Bhuvaneshwari Mandir, and Ghatshila.
With as many as 183 schools and 13 colleges, and Tata Steel handing out scholarships, Jamshedpur's education infrastructure is comparable to the best in the country.
Jamshedpur counts a leading management institute, Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), among its educational institutes.
