Festivals and Events

Ganeshotsav: Celebrated with a lot of gaiety and grandeur all over Maharashtra, this festival is a special one for Pune residents. For nearly 11 days every year, the city is a sea of pandals and processions. Every home wears a festive look and every kitchen is busy making delicacies for the God Ganesha who is propitiated during this time. History tells us that around the late 1800s, Lokmanya Tilak, freedom fighter and social reformist, initiated the practice of Ganesh Puja as a mark of protest against the British. He organised the first puja in Pune. Since then it has become a tradition with people all over India but nowhere is it as grand as in Pune.

Sawai Gandharva: Named after a renowned Hindustani classical vocalist, this festival celebrates the tradition of classical music in India. Held during the winter months, the festival attracts some of the best musicians from all over the country. Audiences flock to listen to great classical vocalists and instrumentalists at the festival.
